CDAC - CT Disability Advocacy Collaborative Bulletin “Enhancing the effectiveness of disability activism by organizing and empowering individuals, families, groups, and organizations!” Malloy and Foley to attend 2010 Disability Convention and Expo! Democratic candidate for Governor Dan Malloy and Republican candidate Tom Foley have committed to attending the 2010 Disability Convention and Expo, set for this Saturday, August 28 at the CT Expo Center in Hartford. They will participate in the Candidates’ Forum part of the event, which will run from 1 – 4 pm at the stage area to the right of the Expo Center as you enter the front doors. This year we will see a number of important offices that will be filled by newcomers. After November we will have a new Secretary of State, Attorney General, and U.S. Senator. None is more important than the Governor’s office. We have asked the candidates to speak for 10-15 minutes and then stay 10-15 minutes for questions. We have also presented them with our “Challenge for the Next Governor”, a document created in collaboration with a wide variety of disability advocacy groups that identifies ten key issues areas that we feel need to be addressed. To view our document visit the Collaborative web site – www.ct-dac.org. Candidates for other offices have been invited to attend and speak during the afternoon session, with George Jepson, candidate for Attorney General, also committed to speak. ------------------------------------------------------------- Don’t forget to check out the unique display of visual arts created by individuals with disabilities. The display can be viewed in the side room that is to the left of the registration table as you enter the Expo Center, just before the Focus on Employment section. The Collaborative extends its appreciation to Elanah Sherman who took the lead in organizing the display. -------------------------------------------------------------
